International students are granted open work permits in Canada, sometimes called post-graduation work permits (PGWPs). This is for students who complete a program of study in Canada and want to be able to work for any business, anywhere in Canada. One of the greatest methods to obtain experience in the Canadian market, it often has a validity of 8 months to 3 years, although it cannot be used for a period longer than the length of your studies in Canada. After gaining some job experience, you can finally apply for permanent residency.
You would probably be qualified for a PGWP if more than 50% of your program is delivered in person or in classes. You must be 18 years old and have completed at least 8 months of program-related full-time study in Canada. Before applying for the PGWP, you might apply for visitor status if the study permit has already expired or will soon do so. However, candidates who submit a PGWP application before their study permit expires are often qualified to start working full-time right away. In contrast, their application is being reviewed.
Please be aware that not all Canadian academic programs qualify for a PGWP (post-graduation work permit).
An evaluation like a Labour Market Impact Assessment is not necessary for this kind of work permit (LMIA). Your eligibility for Canada's permanent residence programs may increase if you've lived there for a while. To name a few of them:
The goal of this program for immigration is to assist temporary foreign employees and foreign students in using their work experience and educational credentials to support their applications for permanent residence.
Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)This visa is provided to skilled workers in Canada who are qualified to apply for permanent residency based on their training, professional experience, command of either English or French and other characteristics. They can eventually get permanent residency in Canada.
Federal Skilled Trades (FST)The sole federal economic immigration route for skilled, experienced tradespeople who need permanent residency in Canada is the Federal Skilled Trades (FST) work visa program.
Quebec ImmigrationThe Quebec Immigration work permit program is renowned for having the greatest degree of autonomy when establishing its visa criteria for qualified immigrants. It is not just distinct, but it also offers a variety of visa routes that few other Canadian provinces do. Start this procedure by obtaining a certificate de sélection du Québec (CSQ), and then submit a comprehensive application for permanent residency under the Federal Government. Even though Quebec has the most immigration independence, only the federal government has the authority to grant permanent resident status.
In terms of setting its requirements for immigrant visas, the Quebec Immigration work permit program is famous for having the highest level of autonomy. Not only is it unique, but it also provides a wide range of visa options that are uncommon in other Canadian provinces. Start this process by getting a certificate de sélection du Québec (CSQ), and then file a thorough application for permanent residence with the federal government. The province with the most immigration autonomy is Quebec, but only the federal government has the power to give permanent resident status.
Atlantic Immigration PilotA unique initiative called the Atlantic Immigration Pilot enables businesses or organizations in the Atlantic provinces to invite or recruit foreign nationals without first completing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Over 4,000 people are expected to be invited under this initiative, which was started in 2017, in the next years. The submission of applications for permanent residency and settlement will assist local firms in hiring skilled foreign people.
Family SponsorshipYou can sponsor your spouse, common-law partners, or any family members who live in Canada. This is renowned for having supported family-reunification initiatives and for having established several immigration policies tailored to this. Spouses, common-law partners, kids, and other dependents, parents, and grandparents can all be sponsored under this scheme by Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
If everything else fails, there are still ways to stay as a temporary resident, including through trade agreements and LMIAs. Typically, LMIAs are completed and offered by the employer. You don't require an LMIA for other trade agreements that permit you to work in Canada.
Be aware that a PGWP can take up to 180 days to process, although you can begin working in Canada sooner (provided you have already applied before the expiry date of your student permit). You have 180 days to apply even if you haven't finished all of your program's prerequisites. Additional paperwork can be needed at the visa office if a PGWP application is submitted from your home country (one that is not Canada).
We're here to make sure your immigration process to Canada is quick and simple and to assist you to beat out the competition for permanent residence status!
