IELTS Classes Overview

An International Standardised test of English language competency for non-native English speakers is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). It is the most widely used assessment system in the world for international immigration and higher education. IELTS is used by governments in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and other nations to process applications. IELTS is possessed by an international educational Organisation called IDP ("International Development Program") which offers student assignments abroad. IELTS evaluates a test-competency taker in four areas of the English language: speaking, reading, writing, and Listening respectively. There is a computer-based IELTS and paper-based IELTS. One has additional exam dates to choose from and receives results from the computer-based IELTS in 3-5 days. Those who choose to take the IELTS on paper will use HB pencils or pens for the Reading, Writing, and Listening parts. While an experienced IELTS examiner conducts the Speaking test in person. IELTS comes in two flavours: Academic and General Training. Both exams evaluate your proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and listening in English.

  • If you want to move to an English-speaking country to study, then you should take the IELTS Academic test.
  • IELTS General Training is designed for people who want to immigrate, do non-academic training, or get work experience.
  • IELTS living skill is designed for people who need to demonstrate their Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) levels of English speaking and listening ability.
  • IELTS can be taken by anyone irrespective of age, gender, race, nationality, or religion, however, the IELTS exam 2022 is not recommended for those under 16 years of age.

How to Prepare for IELTS Exam

IELTS is a test that measures each of the four language abilities: speaking, reading, and writing. There will be no gaps between the Listening, Reading, and Writing tests; they will all be taken on the same day, one after the other. You can reserve a time slot online at your preferred time and day for the Speaking test. If you don't select a slot within the allotted time, one will be assigned to you automatically. Less than three hours are allotted for the test. While a certified examiner conducts the Speaking examination in person which is of generally 15-20min.

You must first listen to the four recordings before responding to the questions. The test lasts 30 minutes and features recordings of native English speakers.

Your spoken English abilities are evaluated on the IELTS Speaking test. The test is divided into three sections and is recorded.

You must respond to 40 questions on the IELTS Reading test, which is developed to evaluate a variety of reading abilities. You would have to read for the gist, main points, specifics, logical justifications, skimming, and determining the attitudes, opinions, and goals of the authors.

You must do two tasks for the IELTS writing test, which is divided into general interest subjects dependent on the module you are taking.

IELTS Language Training

You will be assessed on your performance throughout the test by certificated IELTS examiners. You will be marked on the four criteria: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. Scores are reported in whole and half bands.
