United Kingdom Overview
The United Kingdom is an island country off the northwest coast of Europe. The United Kingdom is made up of the entire island of Great Britain, which consists of England, Wales, and Scotland, as well as the northern portion of the island of Ireland. There are times when the entire United Kingdom is referred to as Britain. The capital of the country, London, is one of the world's best cities for commerce, finance, and culture. Other notable cities include Swansea and Cardiff in Wales, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, Manchester, Birmingham, and Liverpool in England, and Belfast and Londonderry in Northern Ireland. The UK has significantly impacted the world economy, especially in the manufacturing and technological sectors. Some of the best museums, art galleries, music venues, and theatres in the world are in the UK. Outside of worldwidethe land is beautiful, and there are a lot of castles, old homes, parks, and gardens.
