The GMAT Focus Edition is the official testing format administered worldwide by GMAC. It is a streamlined 2-hour and 15-minute exam scored on a scale from 205 to 805 in 10-point increments (all scores end in '5' to prevent confusion with the retired 200–800 scale).
Because the percentile distribution shifted upward, score numbers look lower for the same elite percentile:
• 645 on GMAT Focus corresponds to ~700 on the old GMAT (89th percentile).
• 695 on GMAT Focus corresponds to ~750 on the old GMAT (98th percentile).
• 735+ on GMAT Focus is 99.9th percentile elite territory.
Yes, 100%! The GMAT Focus Edition has completely eliminated Sentence Correction. You no longer need to memorize obscure grammatical rules, idioms, or archaic punctuation conventions.
The Verbal Reasoning section (23 questions, 45 minutes) now focuses entirely on executive business logic: Critical Reasoning (CR) and Reading Comprehension (RC). At SAJO Indore, we teach formal logic argumentation frameworks that give our students decisive speed advantages in CR.
In the old GMAT, Integrated Reasoning (IR) was scored on a separate 1–8 scale and didn't count toward your 800 composite score. In the GMAT Focus Edition, Data Insights is an equal 1/3rd contributor to your total 205–805 score!
The DI section contains 20 questions in 45 minutes across 5 problem types: Multi-Source Reasoning (tabs), Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation, Two-Part Analysis, and Data Sufficiency. An on-screen calculator is provided exclusively in this section.
On the old GMAT, you could never go back or review past answers. On the GMAT Focus Edition, you can bookmark as many questions as you like during a section.
Once you finish all questions in that section, if you have remaining time, you are taken to a Review Screen. From this screen, you can inspect any question and change up to 3 answers per section! Yes. GMAC allows test-takers to choose any of the 6 possible section order combinations at the start of the exam:
• Quantitative Reasoning → Verbal Reasoning → Data Insights
• Verbal Reasoning → Quantitative Reasoning → Data Insights
• Data Insights → Quantitative Reasoning → Verbal Reasoning (and 3 other variations)
You also get a single optional 10-minute break between any two sections. During mock tests at SAJO, we evaluate your mental fatigue patterns to recommend your optimal personalized section sequence.
You can take the GMAT once every 16 calendar days, up to 5 times in a rolling 12-month period, and a lifetime maximum of 8 times.
GMAT scores are officially valid for 5 years. Additionally, with the GMAT Focus Edition, GMAC allows you to preview your unofficial score immediately upon finishing and decide whether to send that specific score report to business schools. Universities only see the test date score you explicitly choose to send.
